Simon Turnbull | “William Blake, the Imagination, and the Soul of Psychedelic Therapy”
In this presentation Simon will explore what we might learn from artist and poet William Blake, and how his view of the psyche, and especially the Imagination, might be useful for us as we try to chart a way through the competing world views that try to capture the Psychedelic (Assisted) Therapy project. What framework do we want to embrace as psychedelics get closer and closer to being accepted as helpful agents for change and healing?
Bio
Simon Turnbull is an Integrative Transpersonal Psychotherapist based in Sheffield, UK.
When he was 24 he was ordained as a Buddhist, and worked for many years in the Buddhist organisation, helping to run a business raising funds for Retreat Centres in the UK and abroad, teaching meditation and running retreats. In the mid 90s he retrained as a Drug and Alcohol specialist, working in a number of settings, including managing a residential rehab in North London and working as a counsellor in an NHS out-patient clinic in Central London. After moving to Sheffield in 2005, Simon completed his psychotherapy training, and started in private practice. Over the years since then he has moved away from formal involvement with Buddhism, and trained as a Body Psychotherapist (Embodied Relational Therapy) and as Therapeutic Shamanism practitioner. Simon co-owns a piece of woodland in Derbyshire, where he and his partner run Environmental Art Therapy retreats, and do one to one Eco-therapy sessions with clients.
He has been a member of IPT since its formation, and has a keen interest in the opportunities that altered states offer to enhance our ability to grow and heal.
