The Academic Circle is evolving into the Academic Squircle!

The introduction of psychedelic therapy in clinical trials, as well as in modern Western society, has posed a few challenges. Randomised clinical trial settings are infused with protocol, routine, and structure, with quantitative measurements and standardisation ⬛️

Psychedelic therapy, like the nature of the human psyche, is inherently subjective, qualitative, paradoxical, infused with meaning and emotion, and sometimes tricky to contain with the box. Like a circular peg in a square hole, there can be friction and frustration when making them fit ⚫️

The Academic Squircle seeks to explore this tension. We need to think squircular!

Facilitated by Graham Campbell and Richard Jones, the Academic Squircle is a rich and engaging space to discuss up-to-date and topical issues surrounding psychedelic therapy. We vote for an academic paper before the session and use this as the focus of our squircular discussion.

Since it began in April 2021, it’s become known as a friendly, relaxed and welcoming place to ask silly questions, invite other perspectives, and help each other learn.

We’ve covered questions around the future of psychedelic therapy, the history of psychedelic clinical trials, the development of psychedelic-like drugs without the trip, conflict resolution with ayahuasca, ethics and equality, managing challenging psychedelic experiences, and touched on the tantalising interface between mind and matter. Who knows where it will go next?

It’s great if you’ve read the paper before the session, but not essential.

Everyone is welcome.

We look forward to seeing you there.
